The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has confirmed that a suspicious death reported early this morning in the community of Abbeydale is now being investigated as a homicide.
At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, police were called to the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E. for reports of a person in medical distress. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male.
An autopsy was completed the same day by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the death has officially been ruled a homicide. The victim has been identified as Carter Spivak-Villeneuve, 16, of Calgary.
“This is a deeply troubling file given the victim’s age,” said Acting Staff Sgt. Clark Budd of the CPS Homicide Unit. “Our investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone with information about Carter’s whereabouts, or who he may have been with last night, to contact police or Crime Stoppers.”

Police are requesting assistance from residents in the area, particularly those in the 300 block of Abergale Drive N.E., to report any suspicious activity between midnight and 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025. Authorities ask the public to:
- Check their property for anything unusual
- Review dashcam or CCTV footage from the time period
- Report any sightings or relevant information

Le Service de police de Calgary (CPS) a confirmé qu’un décès jugé suspect survenu tôt ce matin dans le quartier Abbeydale fait maintenant l’objet d’une enquête pour homicide.
Vers 1 h 20 le vendredi 1er août 2025, les policiers ont été appelés dans le bloc 300 de la promenade Abergale N.E. à la suite de signalements concernant une personne en détresse médicale. À leur arrivée, les agents ont trouvé un jeune homme sans vie.
Une autopsie a été réalisée la même journée par le Bureau du médecin légiste en chef, et la mort a été officiellement déclarée comme un homicide. La victime a été identifiée comme étant Carter Spivak-Villeneuve, 16 ans, de Calgary.
« Il s’agit d’un dossier profondément troublant étant donné l’âge de la victime », a déclaré le sergent d’état-major par intérim Clark Budd de l’Unité des homicides du CPS. « Notre enquête se poursuit, et nous invitons toute personne ayant des informations sur les déplacements de Carter ou sur les personnes avec qui il se trouvait à communiquer avec la police ou Échec au crime. »
